More Crappie Action

Went out this morning between 7 & 9 am, hitting some local ponds from shore. Medical issues have prevented my fishing partner, Walt, and I from doing much boating this spring - unfortunately. Used mainly 1/16 oz. ball heads with a variety of plastics. Most productive were the straight tails. When I quit - due to aching shoulders from all the casting and the necessity of relieving myself - I caught & released 44 crappie, one fingerling LM bass and a very decent bluegill. Not a bad way to spend a short morning of fishing with UL rig (SHSS) and 2# test line. Did not catch any giants, but most were of this size:

Well, it will only allow me one picture I guess??? Sorry! LOL!

Good job sir!

Is that a Bobby Garland?

Recently had a guy from work tell me he cleaned 25 crappie the other day and only the white crappie had eggs.

He showed me the pics and his "white" crappie were female black crappie and the "black" crappie were the males with their tuxedos on.

This is a guy who fished a lot too.  Got to love the fishing community.

I love crappie fishin. Usually what I do with guests who don't have the patience for fishing artificial for bass

Late last year I started targeting the black crappie in the lake in our community. It's got lots of great "keeper" sizes. Delicious! Last weekend I got into a school of smaller ones all around 6" or so and what a hoot. Being to to learning their ways, I realized and was able to "practice knowing there were so many in the mood to bite, that the like the baits slow and typically hit on a pause. I read it (or watched it) and my honey hole last weekend confirmed it. Now to find the school of larger slabs.

Here, so far, they cannot resist the  Arkie Sexee Tail Shad (Tennessee Shad color) I'm throwing! LOVE IT!
