New to the board. I have searched for my topic but did not find it. If it's here please point me in the right direction. 

 

I've just started using larger lures with some success. lures like the whopper plopper 180 because I enjoy topwater..i use 50lb braid for the plopper  but I just bought some 2oz blue fox super bou  spinnerbaits and was wondering what type/size line you would suggest for larger spinnerbaits?

I would probably not go with braid. If you get a backlash during the cast you run the risk of snapping the line and losing your lure. This is because the braid has no stretch. I'd consider 20-25# mono for stuff that big, but you'll need a reel that has a lot of line capacity.

How's your water clarity?  And where are you located?  Are you fishing for Pike/Muskie as well?  As was just said above me I'd advise against braid unless you wanted to use it with a shock leader or "top shot" as the saltwater surf casters call it.  I'd throw baits like that on something like my St Croix 7'10 Heavy Fast action rated for 1-4oz lures.  If those 2oz spinners have blades as big as I'm thinking they do then braid will really turn your rod into a vibration/thump machine which isn't what I personally want to feel all day.. I'd throw baits like this on 17 or 20lb test Pline CXX - It's a very strong and tough copolymer line, but it does have quite a bit of memory associated with it as well.  20lb or 25lb Suffix Siege Monofilament would be my second choice. 

Thank you both for your feedback. I'm in Ga near Jackson lake and usually fishing stained to lightly stained water. The 50lb braid I referenced was just for my whopper ploppers or frog application. I have yet to throw these big 2oz spinnerbaits.

 

Honestly they were larger than I had anticipated. I'm probably going to use a M to MH rod and 6:2.1 reel setup. It was suggested to use 20lb mono or 20lb flouro. I was just looking for some more feedback before I tied one on.

I use 80# braid or 20# CXX on my pike/musky rigs.

I would never throw that on any mh or heavy rod. You will damage the rod.  You need a rod like they use for Musky or a swimbait rod to throw any lure that weighs 2 0z.  Here is an example of what i would throw it on,  http://dobynsrods.com/rod/fr-795sb/.

My line of choice would be P LIne CXX in 15 to 20 pound test or Big Game in the same range.
