Thinking of buying a 1990 Skeeter, Thoughts?

Featured Replies

I am looking to buy my first bass boat. There is a 1990 Skeeter that's in my price range, anyone have any thoughts on this?

They have always made a nice boat. I am not sure when Skeeter eliminated all wood in their transoms so I would simply ask them.  Wood was used in lots of boats and can cause issues.  I would expect they did like most brands and stopped using it somewhere in the 80's.  Beyond that the boat looks well cared for.

That looks like a Johnson on it. That is unusual, as most have a Yamaha on them

Those old Johnson engines just ran and ran if they were given just a touch of TLC.

A friend of mine wrote an incredible article about buying a used bass boat. Now, when you read it ignore the fact that he has Ranger blood pumping through his veins! LOL.  His info on how to evaluate a boat is just as important no matter what brand you are looking at.

Dry rot is big problem with any boat made glassed over wooden transum and stringers.

Skeeter stop making glassed over wood transums about 1990 so your boat is right on that bubble and depends when it was manufactured not sold.

The yr Yamaha bought them they eliminated wood from the stringers.  I think the model numbers ended in "c" represent non wood stringers
