Many guys that have those rod storage tubes are pulling them out and going with the rod covers.  Those tube type rod organizers not only limit the number of rods you can put in your box but have been known to cause guide damage when removing the rods.  The rod covers like the ones FiveBassLimit sells as well as the ones at Brads store allow you to cram as many rods in the box as you can and then just reach down and pull the one out you need with absolutely no tangling at all.  I used them last year and I'm a believer now.

This is primitive but I cut some 3/4" PVC pipe about 4' long and closed one end with duct tape.  I slide one over a rod before it goes in the locker and it keeps the tips from getting tangled.  It works fine for baitcasters but doesn't go down all the way on a spinning rod.  I haven't seen the rod covers 5Basslimit sells, are they advertised on this site anywhere?

This photo is from Brads Ebay store. Hope it's oK.  I was going to go with the tubes rod holders as well.   Then someone suggested these, FiveBass offered some for sale and I haven't looked back.

If you have a Gander Mountain store nearby, they sell rod covers for $4-5.00 each.

I use rod socks also, and I like them alot.  I get the ones from Bass Pro Shops, but I'm sure there are other products that do the same function.  These are easy to put on and take off without fuss, and they keep the rods separated and protected inside the rod locker.

I considered using some type of tubes (like golf club tubes) but I'm afraid I'd end up bending some guides because I know that I don't always pay close enough attention when I'm pulling out/putting in the rods into my rod locker compartment.

I also use rod socks. They sure make getting rods out easy: no tangles.
