Looking for 5' ML 2 piece spinning rod for my daughter

Featured Replies

All I've been able to find is an ugly stick and I've rather get her something that she will use for a good long time. Any suggestions? Thanks!

St Croix has a six footer in the Premier line.

That's gonna be tough, without looking at UL, like panfish series rods from St. Croix.  You might consider a custom build. Delaware Valley Tackle is a sponsor, and Mike the owner is a friend of mine.  I'm sure he can come up with a reasonably priced rod your daughter can use for a lifetime.

Bps has a 5ft6 ml.

Hook, I saw that one end of she really gets into it I might pick it up at little later. It's hard to justify that kind of expense when we're not sure if she'll even ever want to fish, yanno?

J, I was thinking about that as an option too. I could probably wrap it myself, maybe even get her to help with it. She loves working on things with me so that might be a fun Daddy-Daughter activity.

KDW, the rod I have for her hope is that long and it's just too long for her to manage right now. Between the length and how whippy it is it's too much for her to coordinate.

There's nothing wrong with that 5' Ugly Stik.  I have that rod I bought for my 5 year old daughter with the Shakespeare Pink Ladyfish spincast reel on it.  Is it the best combo out there, nope.  Drag is horrible and it doesn't reel that great sometimes.  But it's better than the Barbie and Princess rods I bought her when she was younger that cost the same.  It works to catch bluegill and catfish though and it's even caught a 5lb cat that she reeled in. And it's pink, and that's all she really cares about.  I'm just glad she enjoys fishing and that she doesn't mind touching the worms and the fish when we catch them.

If you don't know if she will be interested in fishing later why buy her something that is more expensive?

If you are willing to order from overseas, look at the japanese brand MajorCraft. They have a dozen or so different lines of rods and offer a lot of 2 part options.  I have had three of them and the quality has been great on all of them.  The shipping on 2-part rods, even from Japan, is pretty reasonable.  You can find them on ebay or any of the big JDM tackle sites.
