Rod for Caenan

Featured Replies

I am a Shimano guy, I admit it, other than Daiwa I turn my nose up at anything else. Yes, why, you ask, well, as a lifelong cyclist, I ride Shimano on all of my bikes and have always found it high quality, top notch and believe the company to be honorable. Okay, whatever. So, I was in Cabela's and got bit. I went to look at a Shimano Curado 70HG and it was the last one so I grabbed it and since it had no papers in the box I got them to give me a 10% off $199. Then I saw the Caenan and it was cute so I grabbed the last box and it too had no papers so another 10% off, that was $70.

So the Curado 70 will go on a Falcon Weightless Worm Low Rider 20, loaded it with 12 pound Stren mono. I think that will be a good match for Senkos and marginally weighted Zoom Trick Works and stuff like that. But whatever should I do with the impulse purchase Caenan?

JFYI, I mostly fish from a kayak or from the bank. Maybe someday I will get a little bass boat but as my wife points out, I have an awfully lot of expensive hobbies ;).

What do you want to use the rod for?

Well, I have an Amistad with my old and loyal Garcia 5500C (vintage), I have a Herm with a Curado 200I (6:1 speed) and a Pitching Stick with a Curado 200I (7:1 speed) and the Weightless Worm now with a Curado 70 (8:1 speed).

The Caenan is a 7:1 ratio. Trying to complement what I have. Just wondering what others use their Caenan 7:1 ratio reel on and for?

Thanks.

You can do just about everything with a 7.1.  Do you have a squarebill setup?

No, I do not per say. Good thought, what rod would that be? Does not have to be a Falcon product, just trying to fill any gaps in my equipment with a nice quality rod that is price point comparable to the Caenan.

Do not fish square bill type baits much but maybe I need to. Thanks.

I own a Falcon Bucoo Micro 7 foot medium fast Trap Caster. Do not let the "Trap Caster" name fool you. It handles traps, cranks from squarebills, shallow divers, wakebaits, medium divers, bigger slow rolled spinnerbaits, and even some buzzbaits.

I think that 7-1 reel will work very well for all of those baits.

I use this rod not only for bass but it tames big stripers for me as well.

The other option that may be similar ( but I have never held one) is a Jason Christie 6'8" JCC-68SB.

It lists for spinnerbaits, cranks and jerkbaits.  The Jason Christie rod sells for $99.  The Bucoo 7 foot MH med/fast Trap Caster runs $130 both at TW.  Pick your poison.  I really like my Bucoo.

It is a very versatile rod and of course it would fit in with the rest of your Falcon arsenal.

Well, I bought a Mojo Flippin rod. Yah, I am weird. I will either use the Caenan on it or move my 5500C to it and mount the Caenan on the Amistad or move my 5600C from a MH Avid and put the Caenan there. I do not know.

I got this Mojo Flippin rod because it is nearly 8 feet, is said to be useful for crank/swim baits with the right reel and will allow me to pitch farther from my kayak than I can with my current rods.

I think it would be okay with the Caenan for flipping?

The other thing is that the rod had the wrong price on it, $129, and the other one just like it of two in stock was $149. I pointed this out, being honest, but the clerk said it was their mistake at Cabelas. Okay then, I will take it.
