Lake Anna Fishing

Recommended Posts

Interesting question....if only because the lake is so big.  I've only been on it a few times, so, I won't offer any help.  But, I have considered taking my kayak down for a day and wondered where to launch from.  I'm assuming that any of the marinas (or park) would be fine.  I think I'd base my decision on expected winds for the day, as much as anything.  Having the boat, also adds an entirely different element to the conversation.   Are you staying at the lake?  If so, where?

Are there preferred launch spots? I'm taking both boat and kayak and never fished this lake.

Not staying at the lake. I live about an hour north in Stafford. I've fished the waters locally, just wanted to get out and discover some new water.

I've only fished Anna a couple times. Both times I launched at the state park. I think it's a good option for boat or kayak fishing as it's fairly central and accessible to various creek arms as well as main lake water. You can find shallow or deep water relatively close and lots of structure and cover options. That said, I've heard the lake can be very busy with boat traffic in summer, which is part of why I haven't been there since spring. Wherever you launch, I'd recommend trying to be on the water at or before first light to avoid the boat traffic.

The best place to launch the Kayak might be Christopher Run Campground.  Turn left and go way up the creek.  The water is a couple of degrees cooler then the main lake.  You can also launch the bass boat there and take it up the creek using the trolling motor.  Some nice bass up there that don't see as much pressure as other parts of the lake.
