SELF INFLATING LIFE VEST

Featured Replies

I am considering a self inflating life vest for convenience and comfort. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what type and where the best place to find one would be??

I have one of the Origanal Stearns.  There are several on the market.  I wear mine all the time if I am fishing by myself.

Keep in mind that the moisture detector deteriorates and requires replacing every 12 months.  I made the mistake of storing one in a drawer and not maintaining it so eventually humidity did its job and it went off in the drawer.  Cracked the bottom and jammed it shut.  The other conclusion to draw was that I found it too clumsy and inconvenient to wear except under extreme conditions - otherwise it wouldn't have spent all that time in the drawer.

Mustang! I have one and it is very comfortable. Cost a little more but life is

worth it. Needs to fully inspected every 5 years. Guaranteed not to go off

premature. See at BPS  8-)

I have Sospenders which I wear in the winter, especially fishing alone.

I just bought a new mustang tournament vest last week on sale for $150 at BPS. I tried several and it felt the best. Be aware that only the top end Mustang's ($260 plus) have the hydrostatic inflator and they are costly to rearm if set off...at the tune of $75.
