Slow Susquehanna Fishin

Featured Replies

Went out to Rock Run on the Susquehanna River last night after work and only got one little guy. Is the Susquehanna below the dam not very good fishing right now or is it just me? Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Started out casting a black texas rigged 5" Senko right at the current break at the mouth of rock run, get a bite on the 3rd cast, set the hook and land one. Then after that... nothing. at least i didnt get skunked i guess and I do love the fight of those river smallies even if its just one :).

after a few more casts with the senko I moved into the tributary a bit and cast around, no bites. I change to a powerbait swim shad and cast it around, then move back to the current around the breaks and around any structure i can reach from foot. switch to squarbill crankbait, then a lipless, then back to a senko (watermelon) then back to the swimshad. nothin, I killed it in the tributary early august casting a senko, maybe 10-15 good size smallies in an hour but not lately.

Anyways that was my after work fishing session.

Things are starting to come alive up here on the Susky. Went out today and caught 5 smallies in 3 hrs. Most were 2 pounders with ***#. All were jumpers. Soon the big fish will be biting regularly. Hopefully the water level comes down and it clears up. Caught all of them on small spinners.

I'm catching fish also. The water level and stain level I feel is affecting me. We never got dog day of summer water conditions. I'm hoping for better condition, I think we will see it.

I think what has helped me is I've stepped up my bait sizes a bit. Give them a bit larger profile.
