Good deal or not???

Featured Replies

Found a Minn Kota Edge 40 bow mount trolling motor for $339.69 shipped to my door. The website is below. 3 questions

1. Is this enough trolling motor for a 16 ft aluminum v hull? (old 4 bench style maybe 400 pounds)

2. Is this a good deal, from everything I have found its the cheapest I've found

3. Has anyone dealt with Hodges Marine before?

Hey logger,

Well what I tell everyone dont skimp on the trolling motor. It does seem like a decent deal, quickly looking at the BPS site they are selling a 55lb bow mount foot controlled motor for $470. You will use the trolling motor more than you think so whether caught in some nasty wind or some nasty current fishing a river its good to know that you have a motor that will handle all you throw at it.

Yeah I am concered about not getting enough thrust, but that's why I am asking you guys. You know far more than I do.

I have been on BPS and Cabelas all day looking, I could get into a transom mount 55 lb for the same price or less, but I don't know if that's the route I want to go after reading many of the posts here. Plus I have used a weak transom mount before and it was a royal pain. I spent more time steering than fishing. Plus it got in the way of my outboard.

I just don't have that kind of money plus I still have to buy a battery and charger $$$ Wow it gets really expensive quick!!

Ya done ordered it but i think walmart has em for 299.00

No didn't order it yet

I would highly suggest that you do NOT get the transom mount trolling motor.  $300 for a 40lb would work fine in most conditions/ it just wouldn't be ideal.   I have an old 30lb foot controlled for my 17' bass tracker and it works fine in most situations.  But when I upgrade probably next year I will go with the 55lb Foot controlled.  I'm just going to save some extra cash to get the 55lb instead of the 40lb.

BPS has it 299 too.  Also have the longer shaft for 5 bucks more.  325.88 includes shipping, and if you click on it through the banner at the top of the site, you are helping support this site.

Ok I see you guys were right about ther BPS price. Now my question is for essentially the same price would you go with a motor guide 46 lb, or minn kota 40 lb?

BPS has both with $10 of each other

I would go for the 46#.  MG is a good motor.  Which is better is strictly a matter of opinion.

I say its not that great of a deal, decent I guess. I bought one probably bought a year and a half ago, Motorguide Pro Series 46lb at BPS for $299. In my experience Motorguide will hold up and last you alot longer than a Minn Kota.

I recently installed a 40# Minn Kota Edge along with the big wally world batt and 6 guage wire on my new Sea Ark 1548MV welded jon. I've only had my new boat on the water twice but I can tel you that if I had to buy again, I would of bought the 55# model. Calm water is no problem but when the wind picks up I wish I had a little more power.
