I fished from shore and during the summer I do quite well using the drop shot method.  Is it still effective in the fall or should I stick to jerk baits, etc.??

Drop shots work year round. The forage is more based on shad or gills and not so much craws in the fall, so try baits to imitate that.

Yeah if the drop shot is working for you, I'd continue to throw it. You may also want to throw some fast moving baits as well as the bass will get a lot more active and even feed in frenzies at times to gorge themselves for the winter coming up. Lipless crankbaits, squarebills, diving cranks, spinnerbaits, chatter baits, buzzbaits, poppers, spooks, hollow body frogs anything you can cover alot of water with fast. Use the drop shot, Texas rig, Carolina rig, jigs, wacky rigs and other slower presentations when the fast paced bite slows down or stops to more thoroughly work an area.

There is going to be a time in the fall when the baitfish move into the shallows.  The bass will follow them in and feed on them.  I would suggest you get experience with a weightless Fluke style bait (Yamamoto DShad is my choice) and fish it parallel to the bank as well as casting straight out and working it back in.  The good thing is that your dropshot  setup can double as a fluke setup very well.

I am also an bank fisherman who has been tearing them up on a drop shot the last month or so.   However, in the last week or so the basss have been showing a strong preference for jerks/cranks.  I have some smaller jerks that work well on my drop shot rod and will work say a 100' run of bank with the DS and, if nothing is biting, tie the other on and refish the same area.   Last couple trips, one or the other has always worked.  

Im a power guy. I carry two rods sometimes three bank fishing. Cranks cost alot so I don't throw from the bank because I can't retrieve.  Exception traps. New water I love a Carolina rig with an ounce sinker. Its the poor mans depth finder. And structure finder. I fish it fast to find cover and fish. Bonus I usually cast further from shore than anyone so only boat guys share the offshore stuff I find. Big football jigs and biffle bugs add to arsenal
