Best knots

Need some advice on knots so I can stop loosing fish!

You are going to get a lot of different answers depending on the situation.  Ultimately it comes down to practicing your knots and using the ones you are the best at.  For tying off to a hook I use a Snell knot.  For crankbaits I use a loop knot to impart more action.  My best leader knot is a slim beauty.  For just about all else I use a double pitzen.

what type of line are you using?

Your best bet is to sit at home and practice tying your knots until you get really proficient at it and your knots look uniform every time you tie them, and you're able to tie them very quickly every time without error.

I only use the trilene knot....not exaggerating when i say i can't remember the last time i lost a fish because of my knot.....just doesn't happen.....you have to make sure you wet the line before pulling it taut though......

I use the SD Jam knot for 99% of my fishing (Palomar for drop shot). Honestly any knot should be just fine as long as it is TIED CORRECTLY. Practice, practice, practice...

Try using the uni knot to attach the lure to the line and the uni to uni knot to attach a leader to the mainline. Always check the line for abrasions and cut off any line that is not in good condition.

I don't want to be the guy that says use the search function, but there are dozens of threads on this.

If you only want to use 1 knot for most purposes, the improved uni is it

Side note....most knots tied properly will work.  Find one that you can tie in your sleep with mittens one after having a couple beers..

You aren't using fluoro, right? Sorry, couldn't resist.

Are you talking terminal knots (line to hook/lure)

and/or line-to-leader line knots?

I echo those saying practice!

Easy terminal knots to tie, pretty bulletproof for me,

but plenty of other knots in the book to try:

Palomar

Uni

Line-to-leader:

Uni-to-Uni

Alberto/Mod'd Albright

There are excellent tutorials out there. Grab a spool of

your line and practice.

Make sure you cinch down slowly on all these knots. Do

NOT pull them tight too fast. Heat generated will weaken

the knots. Lubricate with saliva if you wish, and test pull

the knot before using. Give a good tug on the line, holding

the hook/lure carefully so as not to impale yourself.
