I have a buddy who has one and uses it often.  I have to say I laugh at him everytime but it seems to work.  No gators in Nebraska however.

They have been around a long time  I remeber back in the old Herter's catalog in the early 70's as the first time I saw it Then later in Cabela's I have never seen one or been in one but they have been around for a long time

I am looking for an inexpensive small boat with the following characteristics:

** Space for 2 fishermen

** Weight cap + 500LBs

** Will accept TM

** lightweight carry on top of car roof ( i have no space for trailer)

** Easy to setup

Undecided between alum jon boat (max12'), polythelyene jon boat (12'), polyethylene bass fishing 10.4' - 11.3 boat,  or the folding porta-boat.

If you get a jon boat and your fishing with gators get the widest one you can carry : the wider the more stable. Hey Check with Avid , he fishes Florida with a Canoe that has a pontoon stabilizer thingy on it. It has 2 rods going from each side of the canoe attached to a pontoonn makes it stable. He uses a Electric Motor with it and has it TRICKED OUT! If you write him I am sure he will fill you in

RR I'm on the same mission.  I'm looking to go rivited aluminum jon for the weight but the widest jons I've found are only 36" wide.  They had some dude die two weeks ago in dade when he flipped his canoe in a condo pond.   Windy.  No life jacket.  No stabalizers.  I think Avid has even stood on his canoe with those things out.  The big old towns get under 90lbs and the lightest jons are 150lbs and up.

Let me know if you find something cool.

We fish out of a 12' 36" G3, and it's pretty stable. The two of us stand up all day in it. Take into consideration that this particular boat weighs 144lbs. We throw it in the back of my truck and away we go.  8-)

My buddy is selling these aluminum jon boats that I have not seen before.  Let me see if I can describe it with words:

It comes in three sections, each section is water tight and perhaps in the two back sections a guy could sit in there and float.  As the boat tapers to the front the two front sections are slightly smaller than the previous section.  Each section attaches to the other with a couple of bolts.  The three sections 'nest' toghether when being stored or towed.  When nested the package is about 4' by 4' so it could fit on top of a car, in the back of many 'cross over' suv's or in the back of a mini pick up without hanging over the edge.  While I haven't fished out of one, I was quite impressed at the inginuity.  I will try to grab a picture and post up.

Everything looked good until I saw the picture of the guy in the back!  I would use it on a small pond or lake (on a nice day).  

Travlinman said "gheenoe" and no one picked up on it.

These are not just square back canoes, but a system design that is very stable.

The 13 footer with a trailer and some options are on my short list of next boats to seriously consider.

I wouldn't be caught dead in that three-piece jon boat. I could see the three pieces separating and sending fishermen drifting away from each other helplessly.

Then again, you and your 2 buddies can go separate ways fishing.

Sorry Guys I haven't been on in a while . Gheenoe makes several models  from a 13 footer to one that is rated for a 40 hp. outboard. The one I have had since 1980 looks like a 16 ft. square stern canoe that is slighly flaired out amidships. It weighs about 100 lbs. and is rated for 10 hp. However I use an MK. trolling motor only and it works very well. Stability?? The boat is almost impossible to capsize. I am 6'3" and weigh 185 and I can sit on the gunnel with out getting a wet axxxs. The shape of the boat, long and narrow' gives more speed and battery life with a trolling motor than a beamier blunt nosed hull. In case you haven't guessed, I love my Gheenoe.

Ive gotten the boat and decided for a K.L. Industries 12' Polyethylene Jon Boat.

Shall be good enough for the local canals, small lakes and ponds.

Those that are from the WPB area, cya in the water.

and yes, weight cap is 510 lbs, so we are fine.

2nd the gheenoe....I have a 13ft....super stable....Will not ever sell it either. 2 people can flyfish from it with n problems..
