I am looking at getting an 8wt rod to do some Bass and Inshore fishing with. The rods I am considering are a Medium-Fast action. 

Would these be OK for Bass and Inshore fishing or should I just look at Fast action rods only?

it is more important to find a rod that matches your casting style and preference.  Also there is no standard for measuring the action of a fly rod so one company may call something fast that another company calls Medium-Fast.

I prefer faster action rods for everything but small trout streams.  Faster action rods will fight the wind and handle heavier flies a little more easily in my opinion.

8 wt tip flex will be great all around bass rod for your needs, it will handle smallies, LMB & stripers. The flex tip as opposed to mid-tip will give better accuracy to get those flies in tight spots. Get good tapered bass line, it's really worth the cost.

 

Go try them out, a decent shop should let you cast in parking lot. For a reel get one with a large arbor to pick up more line quickly.

 

I discovered smallie fishing on fly rod only a month ago and quickly became addicted.

 

Flex of the rod doesn't really impact accuracy or the tightness of your casting loop, that is technique related.  

 

My .02 on weights are there is no perfect weight for smallies, LM and stripers but yo can always throw lighter flies on a heavier weight rod but the reverse isn't done as easily.   I have a sage bass II LM rod which is the equivalent of like a 10-11 wt and i have made long tippets and threw some small flies because the fish were going after small damselflies like crazy that day.  

Match the rod to the flies/lures you will be casting, not the fish you will be after. I fish for bass with a 7 and 8 wt rod for streamers, terrestials and poppers. Inshore with an 8 and a 9 wt. In the salt, I'm usually shooting a head, or a sinking tip, so I like a faster, crisper rod, in fresh water, I prefer a more classic taper.
