Can anyone tell me about the lews super duty

Featured Replies

I noticed that these are marked down to $119 from $199 at my local bass pro. I am assuming that they came out with a new model to replace them. The ones that are marked down are the matte black ones.

Are they any good? Any common problems? Will they do well for casting finesse plastics? I was in the market for another tournament mb for $139 and these caught my eye.

Thanks in advance for any info...

Cabelas has them online for $ 99.99 right now.

I have 3 of them (and will have a 4th shortly!). Solid reel, very durable, it is my go to reel for jigs, spinnerbaits (any technique where I am going heavy). Not aware of any known flaws, mine have been bullet proof since day one.

How light of a presentation are you talking with your finesse plastics? I believe the Super Duty was designed to stand up to the type of abuse a reel takes from winding big crankbaits, battling strong fish and handling heavy line. It is not a finesse reel in my opinion but I do cast 1/4 ounce jigs with it just fine.

Lew's has a wide spool model and they are coming out with a "LFS" version of the Super Duty, my guess, that is why they are discontinueing this particular model.

I just ordered one. Hated that it was lefty retrieve but couldn't pass it up. It will be my go to heavy pitching reel. Big line, big bass, big baits.

I throw a lot of 4 and 5 inch senkos, trick worms with 1/8 ounce weights and weightless flukes. aside from that it might see an occasional 3/8 ounce swim jig, spinnerbait and Texas rig. I'll have to decide weather to save 20 bucks and go with the super duty or just get the tournament mb I was going to buy.

The Mbbserves me well with those baits. thanks for the info guys. Much appreciated

Great reels, but probably not a good choice for what you'll be throwing. I'd also recommend that you take a look at a Tatula SV.

Are you saying there are other reels out there besides Shimano?  LOL
