Too much TM vibration

Featured Replies

My endura 40 vibrates alot, especially in reverse.

It didn't do this in the beginning.

I have no clue why.

any ideas?

thank you

Its probably the wingnut...driving the boat!!! ;)

My guess would be a bent shaft/armature.

Assuming that there is no noticable damgae to the prop. and the shear pin is fully intact.

Check the shear pin, a little bend it in may cause the vibration.

Hey buddy  see if the prop is nicked up if so take a file and make it look new again. Try to take a even amount off both blades so it stays somewhat balanced.  Large nicks on the prop blades will cause those bad vibes on TM.

OK,

I now this is going to sound incredibly dumb,

what is a shear pin and where is it located?   :-[

I'll check the prob blades too.

thanks guys.

Avid,

Take the prop off and then it will be easy to see what the shear pin is. Also check for fishing line wrapped around the prop shaft.

Fishing line was my problem...

Thanks guys.

I understand the shear pin thing.  I spoke to my buddy who is really good with all kinds of motors.

I'll check it out tomorrow.  fishing line wouldn't surprise me, but I'll bet the shear pin is broken.

with the lake so low, there are a couple spots where there are only inces of water.

I was playing around and opened up the throttle to see if I could plow my way through.

Nope.  I just dug into mud.  It was fun but I'll bet that was when the shear pin went.

I got my endura at wal mart.  wonder if they sell the pin?

Might want to just make sure the nut hasn't loosend.  The shear pins and prop shafts are pretty tuff.  I've bent and distorted bunches of shear pins but never broke one and I've never bent but one prop shaft, but have broken and torn up more blades than I can count.   As long as mine will pull, plow, knock and bang it's way though, I let it run.  It's not until I comes to a stall or hopelessly tangled do I pull it up.  Getting too old to hold onto that rope holding it up while the motor is trying to pull my butt in while getting out of a bad area.

Nope, Shear pin is fine.

fishing line.  about 15 feet of 20 lb test wrapped around the shaft.

This should be a warning/lesson to all who have trolling motors. With more and more people using braid if you run into someones discarded braid fishing line and it wraps around your trolling motor it can and will work itself to a point where it will start putting pressure and eventually break the water tight seals of your trolling motor's motor and do some horrific damage. I try that every 2 weeks or so take off my trolling motor prop and inspect for any fishing line and quickly remove it. This should also be done to your big motor to as braid will have the same effect on a lower unit's seals as well.

We check all our motors regularly precisely because of the damage line can do.

Extra shear pin and wing nut in the tackle box for "on-water" repair is a smart idea too.  ;)
