Converting an aluminum

Featured Replies

So i have an old flat bottom boat that i want to put a casting deck on it but im not sure if i can. It isnt like all the others i have see.

It has two bench seats in it that are welded and then in the very front where its normally empty, theres about a two foot triangle piece of aluminum that slants up to the very tip, so its not even with the first bench.

Let me see if i can draw something.

its a work of art huh

the bench seats also sit higher than a lot of the boats i have seen. Any Ideas? Its kinda like the front of the boat curves up. I figured i could just put the plywood over the first bench seat and stop it right where the front triangle starts to curve up, put some kind of wooden support blocks under it, and finally make it a bit bigger than the shape so it would be wedged into the boat a bit?

I will search for pics of a similar boats..

Thanks

The last one I did had the bow turn up a little. I sure would like to see some pics of it so I could help.

im getting up early to spray paint, ill take picks and notify you by email that they have been posted , i appreciate it guys! this website is awesome

Let me see if I can explain this in a way that makes sense. When I converted my jon I ran into the same problem. The triangle at the bow was four inches higher than the bench so I ran 2x4's the length of the bench in order to highten it. That brought the difference to two inches. Next I took a length of angle iron (actually it was aluminum) and attached it two inches from flush with the triangle front. I then ran 2x4 braces from the 2x4's on the bench to the angle iron. Now you should be level all the way from the bench to the bow. I wish I had taken pictures as I built it. Sure would make explaining it a lot simpler.

5/8? sorry i dont know much about building and mechanics but im learning

Hook, I'm at the same dilemma. I want to support pedistals with minimal bracing underneath. Would you do 5/8 or 1/2, and in plywood or pressboard?

5/8 ply, resined.

Nick- refers to thickness of plywood.

If pedestals are going to be used a box frame can be made from 1x1 to support that particular area.

Gotta get to work, I'll draw a pic tonight.

Have we met?  That's what people here in RI call me.  (or,... are you a "psychic angler", man, that would be quite an advantage ;) )

No, I just noticed that you post here alot and are very knowledgable. I got Hook from

Low_Budget_Hookers

Just seemed like a logical nick!  ;D
