  1. Just go slow and you won't hurt anything if you're tm starts hanging up back it out. You'll have to experiment to find out how shallow your boat can go, its valuable to know for future reference. Its good to know how deep you can run on the main motor too...
  2. I had the same issue with my PowerDrive - bad circuit board in the foot pedal. Replaced it and it still works but I'll never buy another one. Never had experience with an Edge, but the MK service policy is pretty good you might be able to get it looked at by someone who knows what they're doing.
  3. Lol guys the motor manufacturers anticipate that you're going to suck stuff into your intake, the engines made to take that. Obviously not thick mud, but it'll take quite a bit, speaking from experience....
  4. Option B would be my choice. Common way to mount it
  5. WOW! Great work thus far good sir! That gelcoat restorer looks like it would be the icing on the cake!
  6. Lol i have to laugh at the look of that scene, but yes it could have been much worse. Nice boat for 500 bucks man! Great deal!
  7. If you ask me fishing in that boat is going to be like fishing on a 2x4, but I've been wrong before. There's a huge difference between a 10 footer and a 14 footer, just saying.
  8. Turn it on when the boat isn't in the water and stick your ear up to the transducer. You'll be able to hear it pulsing.
  9. I run a Cabelas AGM battery. That thing is awesome I'd recommend it to anyone. Optimas are pretty nice too from what I hear.
  10. Keep that vent all the way open. The engine needs to take in fuel and it can't suck very hard so if there's any negative pressure it won't take any in and it will die just like you described.
  11. Dude I remember doing the same type of project 3 years ago, I was only 15 as well and it was a GREAT time. My boat is in the sticky post section if you want to check it out here's the link http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1205883728/0#0 That was a great time. The boats still in great shape and I'm improving it all the time. I hope you can do the same thing with yours. Any questions just shoot!
  12. Marine grade plywood just means the fibers are compressed tighter together, there isn't as much empty space in the board for water to collect. Its alot of money extra for (in my opinion) not alot of extra function. Sure, it will hold up better, but it isn't going to be a cure all. I sealed my deck made of regular plywood with Thompson's Water Sealer and its held up great going into its third season. Let me be the first to tell you, it has been SOAKED! But thats another story... By the way, if your hull is aluminum, the chemicals used in wolminized lumber will bleed out when wet and that mix will eat through aluminum.
  13. I have that exact motor. Do yourself a favor and DONT BUY IT! I HATE the electric steering. The only thing about it that might be good is the autopilot. I have the CoPilot for it but only because the foot pedal sucks so bad. Its terrible to drive I regret it all the time. Its got alot of power and its quiet... Until you turn, and then your cover is blown. Its loud and rough. Do yourself a serious favor and stick with a cable steer model. Oh did I mention what a pain it is to stow and deploy? I have to use my foot and kick it loose because it seats into the mount so tight.
  14. To answer your question, it depends alot on the lake you are going to. If its a reservoir and flowing slightly its going to take alot longer to heat up. If you are fishing a lake that is not flowing its going to depend on size and depth of the lake. Shallow areas and areas on the north end of the lake will warm up substantially faster than the rest of the lake. As far as how I would fish that, I'd be concentrating all shallow! The bass won't be able to resist a sharp warm up like that. The baitfish will activate on a 2 or 3 degree temperature rise and the bass will turn on if that happens. If they aren't shallow they're going to be on the first main break next to the shallow water staging for spawn. Look for a point or creek channel. You want to find a "highway" for the bass to the spawning ground - provided they aren't feeding on warmed up baitfish. Where you live might be helpful to know to get an idea of what stage your fish are at as far as the spawn goes as well.
  15. Dude that rig is worthy of an 1100 seried Humminbird! Rip that Piranha off there! lol. Nice boat man
  16. If you just want it to work so you can take it out on the water, plug up the holes with some wine cork and have at it! If you want to keep fish you can just cup some water into the wells. No sense wasting time and resources, just do it right the first time!
  17. The fish is almost always going to hit on a freefall. Try to maximize the time your bait is falling for.
  18. You're sure there aren't any pumps? If there aren't, you will probably need to buy and install a couple. Those pipes are most likely drains, and if the water in the livewell gets to the top of the pipe it will start to leak out through those pipes. This prevents you from pumping your boat completely full of water. Shoot me some pics of the setup as it is now. I had a pump go bad on my well last year and had to replace it. Not tough at all. The most important part of the whole process was just getting a good seal on the piping.
  19. I see alot of you guys in the Macomb area. Maybe we could do a trip to Stoney Creek or Lakevillie? I'm at 27 and Romeo Plank, Ray Township.
  20. I regret every single day buying my Powerdrive. I have the same dilemma you do. I mounted the transducer on the TM the regular way and the wire is just running out alongside the shaft. Almost always in the way. Its the one thing on my boat that didn't turn out well when I did my rebuild...
  21. Maybe I'm totally wrong here but I would say you're wasting your time. Flipping involves using the rods length and stiffness to basically underhand the bait. Okay you knew that, the point I'm making is how can you possibly do that without standing? Granted from a tall pedestal seat on a regular bass rig you could probably stick it but you're pretty much in a glorified lounge chair lol and I can't envision you being able to get much power out of a flip from that position.
  22. Okay, theres more to the equation. The sound waves coming off the transducer are moving in a conical pattern. They stretch out farther laterally the farther down they go (ie the cone gets bigger). When the sound waves hit the bottom or a solid object they bounce back up and the cone continues to expand. In 100 feet of water, the sound travels 200 feet, 100 down and 100 back up. The sound that hits the surface on the return trip is covering a huge area, and the transducer gets a small return sample, not the whole thing. So it doesn't detect objects to the side of the boat very well. Maybe this will be some food for thought.
  23. You could check the motor mount angle and height that might be able to solve some of the issue. With my 20horse I can do it myself but I dont know how you're going to swing that 175 around. Probably would have to take it to a shop. I'd just learn to drive around it.
  24. Lol indeed I am 6'8" he was just a couple inches shy. Much taller than I expected him to be. I'm actually not too good at flippin I'm going to be concentrating on it this year. I do have a pretty wicked longarm though...
  25. Yesterday at the Detroit Fishing Show I had the unbelievable opportunity to meet Mr. Bass Himself, KVD! I watched both his seminar segments on Lake Ultimate and loved them both and then saw him walking around after. I shook his hand and thanked him for his contributions to the sport, other than that I was completely speechless. I took this pic with him.... I know he reads this site so Thank You Mr. Van Dam!
