Replacing WP impeller, etc.

Getting ready to replace the impeller on my 88 DT65.

Looking over the instructions, I notice that they say to use silicone seal (Suzuki part # 99000-31120) to the mating faces of the driveshaft housing and gearcase, also gearcase tightening bolts.

Also says to use water resistant grease on the splined section of the driveshaft.

I have neither. At least not Suzuki brand.

I do have some 3M Marine Grade Silicone sealant (3M Part # 051135-08019) and some basic white lithium grease. Would these two products be acceptable for this job?

My first time working on an OB and I'm kind of running in the dark.

The 3m should be fine as long as it is not 5200 that would be a bear to remove next time.  i would howeverget a different grease.  Should be able to find some at the local Walmart or autoparts store.

Good Luck,

TD

Fot the spline of the driveshaft, I would use Mercury 2-4 C.  Mercury Marine receommends it for their motors.  I just did this last week when I replaced a prop.

Did it yesterday afternoon.  Not a one man job by any means, but only took my dad and I about an hour.  Not bad for the first time either of us has done any work of that sort to an outboard.

I was worried the old impeller would look like swiss cheese, but only one fin was bad.  Going to take it out Wed. evening and give it a good running.
