need to test a prototype weed prop, Virginia location

Recommended Posts

I have a friend who needs to test a prototype weed chopping prop for an electric motor. Anyone in Virginia know of a body of water that is still holding enough aquatic vegetation for a test? Up here in Maryland our weeds (hydrilla and milfoil) have all died back.

No, but I have the Grass Goat from Robbie at Propeller Dynamics and it works on all rivers and lakes I have used it.

I can't recall any body of water this time of the year that would have the vegetation you are seeking.

You may have to wait until this summer to properly test it.

Turtle, I just remembered the "Hot Side" of Lake Anna.

I bet it has grass and pads due to the nuclear generation plant discharged water.

The problem is that the "Hot Side" is a private lake and you have to know someone to get on it.

And I have no idea if there is grass and pads on the lake with all the cold weather we are having in Virginia.

Wish I could be of more help.

While I've not been out recently on fresh water, I can say

the weeds were scaling back in November. Methinks there'd

be little out there.

Only possibility is the small side of Harwood's Mill Reservoir.

If roads are better tomorrow I might could pass by and give

it a check. I'd be interested in testing, if I have some water

that meets the weedy criteria.

Thanks Sam and Darren. I have been on pool one at Lake Anna in February before a few years back. I don't remember seeing any surface vegetation (did they put grass carp in Anna?). I think he is going to have to go way south if he wants to test it anytime soon.

Chickahominy Lake might still have some vegetation, but that's just a guess. I haven't fished it in a few months and last picture I saw of it a few weeks ago it was totally frozen over with snow on top. We have had a lot of lakes melt with this last warm snap though. Mid summer that place is weed heaven.

Could call Ed Allens and ask them if there's any grass/weeds still in there. It's the only boat ramp for that area.

Thanks for the intel! He has a planned trip to Florida coming up in February so he plans to test his weed chopping down there.

The video on the Grass Goat website is from friends of mine who tested it on the Chick in heavy cover and a trip to florida last year.  It performed perfectly and is going to be a buy for me very soon.  I have been on a boat in the potomac many, many times and we fish the weeds a lot and the Goat is on his boat.  Very impressed.
