boat ideas?

Featured Replies

hi,

well ive been searching the web and seen alot of ideas to turn small jon boats into bass type boats, ever since i was a kid id always wanted a bass boat but i think we all are that way hehe.

so now i have some free time and am tired of being stuck to the shorelines, now my question is what would be better to modify into a so called bass boat? jon boat? vhull? aluminum? fiberglass?

to me a jon boat would be a pretty easy conversion but id be worried about stability, ive never been in a flat bottom boat ive been in a few 14ft aluminum row boats and they seem pretty stable. but would they be stable with raised casting decks ect? and is a jon boat stable? it would pretty much be me and probably my son fishing maybee a friend or 2 of mine on ocasion, so what should i be looking for?

i hope im making sense on what i want to do with a boat hehe and thanks for all those who reply

First one was a 12' flat bottom jon, it did great but, was not customed up, still fun

Gotta 14' flat jon now that I'm working on as a project. On the "Bass fishing forum"(I'd recommend going there by the way, if ya haven't and introduce)" I posted a question that involved about a bigger one again.

If the Lord will let me I'd get a 16' wide flat jon and modify for the whole family ;D

(still keep my 14' Lord)

A jon is stabler than a "V" but a "v" cuts a wave.  If you are looking at electric only, definitely go with the jon, if you are looking to break waves with an outboard,go with a "V" or a modified"v"

ummm...what Low Budget Hookers said.

flat bottom jon will work fine in inland lakes etc...especially if you are going electric or with a small outboard.

as far as stability goes...realistically you probably wont tip over and of the choices, but a flat bottom Jon style boat will be more comfortable to stand and fish in. If you are mindful from the beginning of weight when you do your conversion and try to make material choices that save pounds, you will be adding to the stability of the boat with every pound you save.

...another choice is an old tri hull style boat. I was just out on our local lake and there was a guy with a little 15 fot tri hull he had converted and put decks and storage in...gave it a paint job...came out pretty good.

well i may be getting an old lund tri hull boat, talked to a guy today and he said he knows of a tri hull lund with a 90 hp mercury on it, said they want 700$ but will take alot less for it because thier is no steering console ect, so im going to go take a look at it today see how low i can get em ;) imo the 90 merc is worth more than 700$

may be a little more boat than i wanted since id be fishing alot of the smaller lakes around the house, but hey if price is right how can ya pass it up, can always pick up a smaller jon boat for them small lakes later hehe
