Best pants for Ice Fishing

Featured Replies

I'm going ice fishing at the end of the month for the first time in my life.  I don't have any warm pants.  Is it best to just pick up the kind that one uses for Skiing, or is something else recommended?

Thanks

I wear long socks, sometimes long underwear, joggers, and snow pants.  Always remember that you can remove layers but can't put extra on once you've left.  If you've got a heater then it will help extremely.

A pair of good snow pants and layer up.

Any cheap snowpants will work with some layering under. If you're a hole hopping type ice guy, having some proper ice fishing bibs with reinforced knee's are good because you'll be on your knee's a lot. You don't need such bibs though if you're a casual ice fisherman sitting in a hub/house.

I'd say the most important thing when ice fishing is good boots. You're feet will get cold before anything else. Layer up the wool socks and make sure you got some good waterproof insulated boots. Keeping your feet warm is easy to screw up and make for a miserable day.

A decent pair of ski bibs is probably all you'll need.  Get some with several pockets because it's hard to dig underneath them for keys, glasses, etc.

I wear like 3 layers of joggers and you can pick up like waterproof sweatpants that make the “swoosh” sound when u walk that you can wear on the outside and it’s a pretty inexpensive way to do it

Go to Modell's and get one of their $25 snow boarding bibs, get a pair of red ball boots 2 sizes too big, 3 pairs of socks.

You're welcome.

I wear those one piece red long johns with the trap door on the rear. Then heavy winter woolen socks, camo tee shirt with long sleeves. Next jeans with a sweat shirt. Next a full camo one piece insulated suit. Or a camo insulated bib and jacket. At least 1,000 gram thinsulate boots.

Uncle Georges Quote. If your too hot you can always take it off but you can’t add anything on once your out.

i purchased all my insulated hunting gear on sale.

I got a snow boarding bib for $29.99 at my local Modells.  A sweatshirt and some long underwear and I should almost be ready to go.  If I avoid boots and wear 3 pairs of socks with sneakers, am I going to fall on I disagree all day from slipping?

Thanks

Are you going to borrow a pair of Porzingis' sneakers? You want thick socks. Don't go falling through Prospect park lake, ice has been getting really thin last couple of days.;)

You don't want cold wet feet, makes one miserable in a hurry.
