Tackle storage

Recommended Posts

I just ordered my third 9606 hip roof tackle box for my new topwater baits. I’m out of room again. I carry five tackle boxes in the car. I fish from shore near the car.  But I carry everything now. Topwater x2 , crankbaits, plastics, weedless baits. Plus scents.  It’s tough to leave anything home.

i don’t know how some use one tackle bag?

I fish from a boat and several years ago downsized from a full sized bass boat to a much smaller one enabling me to get to out of the way places.

Carrying all my tackle was not an option so one weekend when the weather was bad I emptied my tackle boxes. Went thru each lure individually and thought about when the last time I caught a fish with it. Was quite a revelation. Now I carry only proven producers and am down to two over/under Planos. One for plastics, one for hardbaits. I think I now catch more fish due to this exercise.

Keep in mind I fish for bass and panfish, snook, reds, tarpon, sea trout, and others all out of the two tackle boxes.

There is no "magic" lure, it's what, when, and where.

Felt good to get the tackle monkey off my back.

I make a lot of shore trips for bass every year, probably about 40% of all my trips, and on nearly all occasions, this is my average tackle box and gear:

If the weather is nice, I store everything here:

And when the weather isn't, it goes here:

I have two "planet fitness" duffel bags that I found can fit five 3700 plano boxes each (similar to what Catt posted, but enclosed), they hold the bulk of all my tackle, one box for topwaters, one for jigs, one for terminal tackle, etc, etc, those stay in the car on shore trips.  I will load up a 3600 box or two with baits that I know are producers, that fits in my shoulder bag that I carry for shore fishing.

If I'm going out on my boat I take everything, but shore fishing, or fishing on a friends boat, I travel much lighter.

As a shore angler also, I bring what I think I’ll need it believe to be most effective that day. You know your fishing waters best and if you’ve fished them long enough you might just start seeing a pattern as to what lures might be more effective and time of year. It isn’t fool proof but it gives you a start.

I can fit everything I need for shore fishing in a small BASS bag and 2-3 Plano containers that can fit inside it.

Everything else is fluff and cumbersome, lol.
