Matzuo Brand baits

Featured Replies

How popular is this company and the baits it produces? Ive possibly got a little trick up my sleeve on "doctoring"  something made by them and I possibly want to try to earn a little cash in the process. I know someone will think this sounds fishy(no pun intended) but if they are pretty popular, all I am wanting to do is:

At a local store,I found some Keychains made by Matzuo($.99 ea). They appear like an actual bait without the hooks. What I wanted to try was to purchase some of these keychains, take the keychain part off, put split rings and treble hooks on them and try to turn them for a little coin on eBAY. Would that be wrong? I would put them up for auction with the starting bid being Exactly what I have invested in each lure, that way if it were to sell,Id at the least break even.

How does that sound to everyone? Would I be wrong in attempting this? Ive seen people take Johnny Lightning 1:64 scale diecast cars and make keychains out of them and sell em sooo why not?

I'm assuming you will not disclose that the lure used to be a keychain, correct? That's a little deceptive for the unknowing buyer.

If their lures and their keychains are one in the same, minus the terminal tackle, then it's maybe it's okay.

Definitely make sure the lures run like they are supposed to if you start selling them. :;)

I bought several of their walking stick baits. Now I know why they were on sale. They lay over on their side when you try to get the slightest bit aggressive with them. They look sweet, but.... :-/

Baits that are used for keychains usually have some kind of defect that's why they end up as such.

I got some free storm chug bugs as keychains some time ago and I did exactly what you described exept i didn't sell them but i use them. If those matsuo lures run right after "doctoring" them i don't see anything wrong with it.

Matzuo crankbait lures are junk, and if their rejects become keychains, I can't imagine how bad the defect had to be to have it become a keychain...

I made the mistake of buying a ton of Matzuo stuff out of the $1 bin at Dicks.  I bought about $25 worth, and not a single lure works well.  They roll over, are untunable, and break apart.  I have dumped all my remaining Matzu cranks on ebay.

Now, the Matzuo spinnerbaits are another story, very, very nice.

As to selling the keychains after outfitting them, do it.  Just put in your description what you have done...

What a difference a day makes. I went fishing this morning, and while stocking the box last night, remembered this thread and decided to try the Matzuo walking minnow again for the hell of it. 2 pounder on the second cast of the day. They still suck when compared to a spook, but , when you work it just right, it'll run right.
