Multipurpose rod for A-rigs, deep divers, and heavy punching

Featured Replies

Looking at buying a heavy duty rod that will do several things. Throw a-rigs, deep divers and also punch mats and thick grass. Looking at the Okuma Guide Select 7'11" heavy. It is a moderate action so I feel fine with the cranks and even the Alabama rig, but punching I'm not so sure about. I know a lot of guys are going to a more moderate rod for punching to help keep the fish pinned against the mat. Anyone have any input or personal experience?? The rod is cheap and that is a big selling point. I've spent a lot here lately and looking for a budget rod. Thanks!

Would you have any reservations about using it for any of the techniques I mentioned? How is the sensitivity?? It's a fairly cheap rod so I'm not expecting a ton in that department.

Not at all, and in fact I have used it for all that.  It sensitive enough to feel bites.
