While deciding how I want to have my drop shot rig set up, I've read a lot of different articles on how certain pros rig theirs. A lot of people seem to use braid to a fluoro leader, 8lb test. My question is what are the benefits of doing that? I know you could use a lot heavier braid for you main line if you were worried about breaking fish off but wouldn't the possibility of breaking one off on the leader be just as good? Is it for better casting? Let me know. thanks!

Can't speak for the authors that you've read.  For me, though, I've gone to braid for all my spinning reels.  Manageability and hooksetting went from ok to fantastic overnight.  Say goodbye to loops....especially for twisty applications like flukes and dropshot

Braid is a lot easier to work with on spinning reels.  I would never use anything but braid for a mainline on spinning.  It is also better for hook sets. I generally don't fish very heavy action spinning rods because i mainly use spinning for finesse applications so if I'm using a weedless drop shot rig the braid will help make up for not having as heavy of a rod action.  The number one reason for me though is because it doesn't have memory.  Good Luck!

Like the others have said, I use braid as mainline for all spinning set ups.  The benefits for me on drop shot are also the manageability but more importantly,  sensitivity.  because the line isn't slack and braid has no stretch you get the full feel of the bait and your limiting factor becomes your rod for sensitivity.

I don't just use braid as mainline on all my spinning rods, I use braid as mainline on ALL my rods.  Of course I use mono backing on my casting setups but I absolutely LOVE the sensitivity increase.  The only rods that have all flouro are my casting rods set up for crankbaits.  I didn't want braid affecting my cranking depth on those setups.
