Used Jon Boats

Featured Replies

I am doing some research to see how much it would cost to make a small bass boat out of a used jon boat.  I am looking for atleast a 16' and then I will put a deck on it and all the other goodies I am interested in.  I am looking at putting a 9.9 - 15 engine on it.

Does anyone know of a website that lists these used jon boats?  Or is this a type of thing where you just need to know someone.

Thanks, Jason

$1500 for a 14' that just needs the deck built and maybe a trailer.   16' seams to hold its value really well.  I can't find a used one for under $2000.

Never used craig's list before.  Gracias.

Craigslist is usually the best bet on this kinda stuff. Sometimes if you ebay it and set it to only show results within xx number of miles from you, you can find some sweet deals.

9.9 on 16' is underpowered, yes you move but at a slow pace, then add a good couple hundred pounds in gear and people plus modifications and it 's like 9.9 as a TM; you 'll arrive tomorrow to your fishing spots if your regular lake is big. 15 is better but not by much, but if it were me I would go 25-30.

Raul, Thanks for the input.  The reason why I said 9.9 or 15 is because a lot of the lakes close to St. Louis (200 acre) have HP restrictions.  And I don't think there is any way I am going to take a 16' Jon boat out on waters like the Lake of the Ozarks.

I 'd say to check the restrictions and get the biggest one the restrictions allow. My 12 ft tub is powered by a 6.5 and everything is fine ...... until the danged wind begins blowing in my everyday lake.  >;), should have purchased the 9.9 but I was short on cash for the 9.9 and the urge was so big that I got the 6.5 (  at that moment I needed about 500 more for the 9.9 and about a month later I sepnt the same 500 in tackle  ::) ), not that the lakes I fish regularily near home are huge, the biggest one is about 1,000 acres, but the shallow ones ( 50 ft at the deepest part ) sure do make nice wakes when the wind blows.
