Hey I'm plan to do alot of fishing out around Springfield Massachusetts and western Massachusetts in general.  I usually spend my time looking for trophy size bass in Spencer ma. But out in western Massachusetts as far as I know outside of lake congamond and the quabin there Is not as far as I know a good concentration of big bass. I been to water shops pond, five mile pond and all the rest in between and maybe I'm missing a good lake, pond or river to check out.. would like some advice as to where to go, and some advice on the striper fishing in the Connecticut river at the western Massachusetts section.

I can't give you any advice on the striper fishing but I can say that the Oxbow in Northampton has nice bass fishing . Also loaded with pike.

Sorry it's been so long to have replied to this post. With covid and other family issues, I have not been out fishing much in 2020. However, being an old "codger" I've fished my way through the Berkshires and most of western MA all my life.

If you are looking for "big" (of any species), I'd highly recommend the Quabbing Reservoir, hands down. The Oxbow in Northampton has produced some big bass and pike over the last several decades; as long as you're willing to contend with heavy warm season boat traffic.

Other great lakes are Onota in Pittsfield and Pontussuc just north of there. There are other smaller bodies of water in and about the Brookfield areas that produce as well. Like any area, when it comes to fishing, you just have to put in your time on the water. And having a good sonar is a big plus as well. Good luck to you and let me know if I can be of further assistances.

Welcome to my neck of the woods!

Onota and Pontoosuc can be tough fishing, but they do have some big ones no doubt. Pontoosuc can be quite obnoxious if you are on a kayak or canoe because the boaters there really don't watch out for you and that seems to be the norm.
