Any mechs out there, that can help?

Featured Replies

I have a flat bottom thats got a johnson 25 on it that I am trying to get ready for duck season.  The problem is that I am hearing air come out of the connectors on the brass valve on the tank and the fuel valve on the engine.  It has that fuel line with the balloon on it, if this helps. Even though the tank, brass fitting, fuel line, and balloon are under a year old you can hear air and the balloon will not pressurize. (sorry for all the spelling, im in a hurry).  Both of the black connectors with the silver clips on their back are brand new, got em about a week ago.  So any suggestions?

did this leak start before or after you changed the fittings?

Oh yeah sorry, The boat was used earlier this summer multiple times and was then put up in a friends shop. He brought it back to dallas and when we took it out a couple days later we couldnt get it to start, and we could hear the air coming out around those clips.  SO we then went to the store to get new ones and replced them on the spot with no improvements.

Are you sure it is hooked up the right direction. Is the primer bulb trying to suck gass from the engine and put it into the fuel tank? Look for an arrow on the primer bulb to show the flow direction.

Of course.  Fuel flow arrow is pointed at the engine.  Its like the clips are not sealing off.

You may have either bad clips or a bad hose.

Check the fitting that screws into the tank. They can develope leaks if the hose is used to lift the tank. Check the Hose to insuer it has no leaks or cracks. Fuel line is cheap at the parts house.

Check the clamps where the hose connects on either side of the Blub. If bad or lose remove and cut or trim off bad part and reconnect with clamps, and do the same at the clips ends where the ho9se connects to the tank and wher it connect to the motor.

But here is a shade-tree fix for you!

If all check out ok and you still here the air the air

unscrew the tank fitting and apply some PERMATEX 82180 to it then reinstall. Un plug both ends hose from the clips. Get you some PERMATEX 82180 (Auto Parts Stores) and coat both of the clips tube ends, give it about a minute or so to set up and then push the tube (don't twist!!!) back on the clips. Let it sit over night and go fish the next day!!

Link so you will know what I'm talking about
