Does anybody know of a good recipe for hot dogs as bait for channel catfish? I've heard to use jello, garlic powder, etc. I need something that will keep the bait on the circle hook. I'm going fishing for channel cats tomorrow, but in the past, the piece of hot dog flies off when I cast... Thanks in advance.

What type of water are you fishing in ?

Go a little early, and catch come 3-4" bluegill.

Slice them with ur knife and use those for bait. I've caught some really nice channels with fresh cut bluegill.

The best bait you can use for game fish is the prey they usually feed on !

You can also use chicken livers , hot dogs etc... But they will eat those fresh dead sunfish for sure. It doesn't even have to be dead.. might even end up catching a nice bass or a toothy critter depending where you're fishing.

I prefer baitholder style hooks vs the circle hooks for this application..

I prefer using fresh cutbait or live bait for channel catfish. Chicken liver is another good channel catfish bait.

For 50 years or more, I've tried cut baits, dough baits, live baits, meat baits, etc.. When I was 12 or 13, I use to go the corner grocery store and buy a "slab" of beef liver (that was when they use to cut it 1/2" thick or more). I'd then cut it up into chunks, wrap it in aluminum foil and into a small cooler; I'd put a piece on a #4 bait hook behind a 1/4 oz. egg sinker and toss it into the Ct. River, below a bridge. Caught a ton of cats using that. Most reliable producer I've ever found.

I've never used hot dogs before.  I'll either use minnows or cut bait.
