interchangeable humminbirds?

Featured Replies

I have a Humminbird 565 mounted on the bow of my boat with the transducer mounted on the trolling motor. It works great and I really like the dual beam function. But now my console unit (not a Humminbird) has gone out and needs to be replaced. If I were to buy a 525 to mount on the console, would I be able to switch the screens and have the bigger pixel unit in back while running and then, when needed, switch back when the TM is down? 525's are about $70 cheaper than 565's 'cause they don't have as many pixels and don't have the dual beam capability. The transducers are the same.  Hope I am asking this in a way that makes sense.

I don't understand the question.

Are you wanting to use the same transducer for both units?

Shad_ Master   I don't think the transducers are the same.  The 525 transducers don't have Dual Beams capability.

You might want to call Humminbird.  They have always answered question for me.

You can swith the units from mount to mount, but the transducer for the 525 will only give you the 200khz frequency on the 565.  If you want to just use the 565 get yourself a new mount, power cable and transducer.  Would probably run you around $100 and move the 565 back and forth.  The mount is around $30, power cable $10 and dual beam trans is about $65.  Or you could get a 323 for under $180 that is a dual beam unit.

Thanks for the replies guys - What I'm really getting at is the while the dual beam feature is nice, I really don't need it for most of the lakes I fish in this area.  What I'm trying to do is save some work (I'm lazy) and some $'s (I'm cheap).  If I could move the 565 to the console for most running and use the 525 up front while fishing.  This would work best most of the time - however, occasionally I would like to have the dual beam up front while fishing and, if possible, would like to be able to switch them back and forth when needed.  I will probably contact Humminbird to see what they say.  Thanks for helping me organize the questions.
