falcon hd 7' heavy/fast casting rod????

Featured Replies

guess I'm doing this bassackwards but, I ordered said casting rod for a texas rig/ worm/lizard rod then got to thinking it may be too stiff as I've always used a 6'6" mh actioned rod for t rigged baits. have any of y'all fished with this particular rod and could ya tell me its attributes/merits/downfalls please? I was looking for the falcon hd 7' mh/fast but they only make in 7' mh/moderate fast.

thanks,

Big Ed

No experience with the HD.  I have one Cara,  had 3 Original (one was stolen), had 4 Experts (one got broken), but none more powerful than a MH.  In my opinion Falcons fish a bit light.  It may seem to be this way because they have more of a parabolic bend than some other rods of the same rating.  This would lead me to believe the HD is probably similar, and therefore should not be too stiff.  My PB was hauled out of the slop on a MH Original.  They may have a nice parabolic bend, but they still have the necessary power.

I have two 6'10" HF Quantums.  They would handle those techniques fine....as long as the total weight was within the rod's range.  However, my 7'6" MHF Gen1 Villain is like a broomstick.  Basically what I am trying to say is that there is a good possibility that the HD will be fine (based on my experience with Falcons), but the only way to positively know is to use the rod.

thanks new2bcbass. like I said I would have probably went with  mh if falcon made the hd in a mh/fast. I also ordered said rod in 7' which is a leap for me too as the longest rod to date I've bass fished with is a 6'6". I'm hoping the heavy is a touch stiffer than a mh in actuality and not quite a broom stick ha!

thanks and keep the thoughts coming please,

Big Ed

I have the 6-10 bucoo micro "pitchin stick" which is hf  I believe as my jig rod. Mostly throw 3/8-1/2oz. And it's pretty perfect for me; my favorite rod I own. I would suppose the 7ft. Rod would be similar and if so it should be fine.

thanks for the reply kgbassr. I stepped up and bought a shimano Calcutta 200b for it too which is way nicer reel than I've used. I've uses abu 5500c3's all my life with some older shimano's thrown in for good measure. wonder how would the new Calcutta 200b compare to a morrum 5600c in smoothness and casting distance??

thanks,

Big Ed
