st. croix premier vs st. croix triumph vs fenwick hmg

Featured Replies

ok fellas I got the falcon hd rods in I ordered from academy. I ordered 7' heavy/fast and a 7' medium heavy/medium and they feel a lil tip heavy to me along with feeling a tad long for my taste. so, now back to the drawing board. what do y'all think about the st. Croix premier,st. Croix triumph and the fenwick hmg all in med/hvy fast and medium/fast powers/actions and all in 6'6" casting rods. they will be used for mostly bottom bumping/texas rigged baits and some slug-o type baits and top waters along with some frog action thrown in for good measure.

thanks,

Big Ed

No experience with the fenwick, but I've got a triumph and premier, both are spinning rods. They're the same SCII graphite so the biggest difference is Triumph is made in Mexico vs Premier is made in USA. I've been happy with both and it's whether the price difference is worth being made in the USA to you. Some people will recommend if you're spending enough for the premier to go with a mojo bass instead which is made in mexico but has the upgraded SCIII graphite which should be more sensitive, also has a split grip over full grip.

thanks vilas. yeah I like full cork grip personally. guess I need to hear from fellas that have tried the fenwick hmg vs eith of the st Croix's I mentioned if they have the same hardware and same sensitivity blanks on em.

thanks,

I have the previous generation HMG and St Croix mojo and avid x. HMG is a nice rod for the money. I would say I prefer st Croix overall, but its twice the cost. I here fenwick is easy to deal with warranty too.

I have a number of st croix premier rods and they are great. On sale now at Cabelas too...

It is a good thing you like short rods because they should stand a better chance of not being tip heavy.  You could also research rods that balance well...such as Dobyns.  I've got rods that are tip heavy, but I don't seem to notice it while fishing.  Besides.....my wife tells me I am clueless so why change now?  :P  Ignorance is bliss.  :teeth:

Thanks guys. Guess I never considered 6’6” as short. Yes I do like a more balanced rod as I can fish longer comfortably. Keep the suggestions and thoughts coming.
