Team Daiwa TD-Z CU spinning reels...

Featured Replies

I just picked up an absolutely beautiful Team Daiwa TD-Z 2000CU spinning reel and am looking for more information on it. The reel retrieves like butter. When did they come out, what was the retail, etc. and what are they worth today? The reel is almost mint (a few tiny, tiny marks but I am very OCD) and comes with box, paperwork, felt reel bag, plastic reel bag, extra spool, and extra spool plastic bag. Thanks for any/all help and best wishes on the water!

I have a Team Daiwa S 1500CU I picked up used a few years ago.  I hadn't heard of that reel until I saw it for sale.  Never heard of the TD-Z spinning reel.  A quick search turned up nothing.  I'd be interested in hearing more about the reel.

The Team Daiwa Z series spinning reels were released in 2000.  They are the predecessor to the TD-Ignis.  The reels feature a full magnesium body, magnesium handle, and an ABS spool.  The reels were released in two models, both sporting gold and silver trim.  They were made in Japan and are not saltwater safe.

Introduced in 2003, the Team Daiwa-S-C is a more affordable version of the X-C and Z-C.  The reel features less ball bearings, less weight reduction, and a rubber knob instead of the i-shape cork.  It does retain features such as Twist Buster 2, ABS Air Spool, and the titanium coated line roller.  The reel is offered in the same models as the X-C including the double paddle handle models.  The S-C was last produced in 2004.

Back in the early 2000's, that was one of Daiwa's higher end spinning reels. The CU was for the United States market, the Japanese version just had a C after the number. It has a magnesium frame.

I will try to get pictures.  The box says 11 ball bearings and all the features above.  Weight is 8.6oz. so not sure about being magnesium.  What was the retail price of these reels?  The reel is very similar to the bottom pictures of Rippin-lips but the handle knob has three grooves in it (like the old TD-X reels) versus the traditional "I" knob.

Upon further investigation, looks like that particular model has an aluminum body with a magnesium rotor. It also has an abs spool with a titanium nitride spool lip.

Where did you find that info?  Do you know when they came out and what they retailed for?  Are they in an old BPS or Cabela's catalog?
