Bar Bait.  It kept mice, squirrels, and racoons out of my range cubes in the barn.

Your right. I heard that too, but forgot. I had found some moth balls at my moms and have them for winterizing, but I'm afraid my compartments will hold the smell in and ruin baits(might help?) next year.

I'm going to try the Dryer cloths this winter.

Just got thru, this very morning, with the folks who came by the house to winterize and shrink wrap my boat. When asked about this same question they emphatically said, "BOUNCE" fabric softener sheets - and ONLY the Bounce brand! Previously I've used plastic containers (drilled with holes) in which I put moth balls. But come spring, the boat "stinks"! The guy doing this job for me said they've been using Bounce for almost 6 years now, without a problem. And they do hundreds of boats inland and on the shore every winter. Hope this is of some help  :(

I use moth balls every year, but in the Spring I take them out.  Then put around 10 fabric softener sheets in each compartment (the stronger the better), close the lid, and let them sit there in the sun for a day or two.  Then, I let it air out for another day or so, and that always gets the smell out for me.

For what it's worth, I've heard the Bounce sheets are a good insect repellent also.

I am sorry you guys have to winterize your boats. Down here we get it tuned up and make sure we drain the water out of the hub and pump after each use. Then we cover it with a boat cover or tarp untill we go fishing again.........next week!  ;D
