Good back of yak cooler?

Featured Replies

Looking for a nice back of kayak cooler. The Yeti hoppers are such a good shape and size but the price is definitely a bit of a turn off. What do you guys use? What would you recommend?

There are other brands of that cooler out there that are much cheaper than Yeti.  Look at RTIC, Ozark Trails, and a few others.

Yeti

The price is nuts but i just love the thing. You pay for quality. I'm not saying we NEED that quality in a cooler, just saying it sure is good.

depends on your purpose.  Are you looking to keep your catch fresh or just hold some food and junk for the day.  Also tank well consideration is a factor too.  I just have a cheap soft sided cooler and the few times i use it, it works fine.  Just freeze some water bottles and let them keep everything cold and then you can drink them throughout the day.

I personally don't like to have additional weight so i don't usually carry anything that needs refrigeration unless I know i am gonna be out for a long (10+hour) day and a long paddle.

@flyfisher Just looking for something to hold a few beverages and maybe and sandwich or two on those longer outings. While it’s awesome that a yeti can keep ice from melting for 24 hrs I don’t need a cooler that almost costs as much as my kayak itself.
