I have never fished Winnipisaukee but maybe next summer it will be a summer vacation destination. It's like a four hour drive so probably not something Id do on a weekend but I hear they have great fishing there. Is it a worthwhile trip?

Welcome to the forums.

Oooh, I'm going there in August, it looks like a huuuuuge lake.  Wondering if I should trailer my 14' 86 Bomber up there to fish with my kids.

Absolutely!

.....and you can come over to Squam for a day and join me on “Golden Pond”

Winni can fish tough in the summer.  Would recommend the main part of the lake, fish early or late in the day.  If you don't know the lake make sure you use caution and use a map or chart from your electronics, rocks are everywhere.  Stay out of the broads unless you have the boat to handle it and keep an eye out for darkening clouds.  Sudden storms can be quick and violent.  With all that said it's a gd SM fishery and don't overlook the LM.

Yeah, I'm thinking my boat will be too small for the main body and I'd have to stick to the small fingers. I may just hire a guide when I'm there.

There are tons of great fishing without having to cross the broards.  Moltonborough (sp) is much quieter than paugus bay and the Weirs areas

So I just learned we're staying at Weirs Beach, literally right across on Lakeside Ave. Don't think I'm going to trailer my small boat up there from the DC metro area...one blown tire and that will throw off the whole vacation. We'll probably end up renting a pontoon boat for the week for daytime fun activity, then maybe some late afternoon fishing. Any tips for spots? Looking at google maps, it looks like there's a nice stretch of rip rap between Moultons Cove and Chattle Cove, then pretty uninhabited areas along the western shore of Moultons Cove south of Pickerel Cove.

Really can’t help with specific spots, but you have an open invitation to come over to squam

Wasn't trying to scare you just make you aware of how quickly things can change and to be aware.  Lots of good fishing everywhere on Winni.  Just pull up on a rock pile or a gravel flat and you should be able to catch fish, early and late would be my recommendation.  You also have an open invite from NHBull, I've fished with him, he's a good guy and knowledgeable fisherman with a nice boat. Gd luck even if you catch nothing it's a very nice area to visit.  Enjoy.
