Thoughts on Dobyns Fury 734C

Featured Replies

How are they throwing 3/8 oz to 1/2 oz jigs?? I don’t fish a lot of heavy cover. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Yea they recommended the 704 or 734......I just like the added length. Thanks.

I have a 734 fury and it's what I use for those size jigs. It works well with plenty of backbone! I own 6 fury's, 734\735\2@733\703 & 705cb..Good rods!

Great rod, I put in about 15-18 hours on the water this weekend and my 735 Fury got roughly 1/3 of the use. I don't regret getting the Ike rod but after getting out and using the Fury, I wish I selected the 705CB instead. The blank is ultra crisp, I feel way more confident casting it with force over the Ike rod, it probably has to do with the action and power TBH. The reel seat on the Ike has a black gloss finish instead of matte, I'm pretty sure it's made by Fuji, where the Dobyn's isn't. Didn't seem to matter, every time I had the Ike rig in my hands, I was longing to get back to the Fury. The cork isn't spongy or soft like the new HMG or StC Premier, it's more of a hard cork but with a smooth texture. The guides are nice and durable, my dbl uni knot from 50lb braid to 18lb FC was bigger than I desired. It would make a zipping song sound on the retrieve and the feeling was quite noticeable. I inspected my rod after the wknd, no knicks, or chips in the guides. Then again, I keep my rigs in G-MAN sleeves because I value my gear.

Hope that helps, the 734 is next on my list but I'm going to save for a Champ XP.

Yea I have the 705CB and love it that’s why I’m looking at the 734C for 1/2 oz jigs.....also looking at the ALX IKOS (wonder if its worth the $50 more) and Tatula.....just trying to gather as much info as possible. Thanks.

I have a Champion XP 734 and fish jigs up to 1/2oz just fine. It's a pretty versatile rod. I throw Keitechs, spinners, and heavier Texas rigs as well. My lakes are all open water though, so that's all the back bone I really need. Any heavy cover and I'd probably prefer a 735 or 736. The 734 has a pretty nice tip.

I'd like to add that the Dobyns Extreme HP 744 is a really nice finesse jig rod as well. It seems to be slightly more stout with a faster tip. It'll probably be a little more accommodating when throwing jigs heavier than 1/2. Either way, you can't go wrong. My 734 gets a lot of use!
