I seen something in one of the other topics about this is that stuff no good or what I am going to carpet pritty soon and I need to find some carpet.

I put HD's outdoor carpet, that grey stuff in my boat one time and then a friends.  My experience wasn't good.

The backing on that stuff wasn't very good.  After applying the adhesive, putting down the carpet and then pressure rolling the stuff down I was finding places where the adhesive was bleeding through the carpet. I was using the smallest notch trowel I could find and still was putting too much down for that carpet backing to handle.

Because of the tight weave on that stuff,  it is a hook grabbing magnet.  Once a hook got imbedded it involved the use of a needle nose pliers and a lot of work to get it out.  In the end, a runner usually resulted....uggghhhh..

I initially bought the HD stuff because it was substantially cheaper than standard boat carpet.  We were doing a lot of family camping at the time with the kids and muck, sand and dirt was always getting into the boat.  I didn't want to put down high dollar carpet only to have it ruined and stained.  Unfortunately, the HD stuff just didn't hold up.  After the end of the second season it was looking shabby, bleaching out and the stuff was just matting right down. In reality, it actually looked like it needed replacement after just the first season!

Oh and with such pathetic backing and little fluff to the actual weave, there is little cushion under your feet.  It's sorta like glueing burlap down over the deck.  No bounce, no cushion at all for your feet if you stand to fish all day.

It is cheap though.  I've heard the Lowes version is better.

There are several places selling marine carpeting (that's really what you want). BPS, Cabela's to name a few.  I've purchased from Cabela's several times for projects and have always been happy with their stuff.  Good quality, long lasting and easy to install.

The Lowes stuff is better. I've put it on three boats and it works great. Cart7 is right the HD stuff will bleed through.

Check out the anti-fatigue foam pad that I put under mine. It makes a huge difference. It's in the thread at the top. "Birth of and electric bass boat."

thanks for the info. that foam stuff when laying it do you glue both bottom and top side of the foam and can you get it at lowes and one other thing is thomsons water sealer enough to seal plywood.

Thompson's-YES

As for the foam, I would glue each side.  The Lowes carpet is what we use on our jons also.

How Much glue did you buy for a 14 foot 48" Jon fully decked?

I guess I could do the math 50 Sq feet give or take

How Much paint did you buy? 2 quarts of primer 1 gal of paint?

Thanks!

I installed the Lowes carpet this year and am happy with it.  I used the outdoor carpet adhesive for the deck and contact cement on the places that I had to wrap the carpet like doors.

The foam padding is in the rack with all the other runners at Lowes. Just ask for the Anti-Fatigue Runner and they will point you to it. You should only need four feet of it for the front deck. You only put it under where you stand the most.

I have recarpeted 2 of my bass boats i got my carpet from bassboat carpet.com they have everthing you need you can buy a kit from them comes with carpet and carpet knife and info on how to install it

There are distinct differences between bass boat carpet and boat carpet (indoor/outdoor), which is a closed loop carpet.. The nap in bass boat carpet is designed to not allow the hook to snag. You can buy it online as previously indicated.

I put a couple lure on my lowes carpet and only one snag when I pulled it up it didn't need pliers or take half the carpet with it.
