Started to deck my boat and....

Featured Replies

Its a 14 48 so the beam is 5 feet I started with the front platform from the front it goes back 5 feet, it is one inch under the rail.  I was going to drop the deck down 6 inches and deck all the way back and add two more pedestal seats on the centerline for a total of three.  Is this going to raise my center of gravity to high and the boat will be unstable (wobble for you technical types)?

I have stood on the back factory flat seat on the water and it wasn't to wobble but adding 1/2 plywood up top is another story.  Should I add some ballast?

Anyone else deck the whole thing on the same size boat?

Thanks

Update: just measured the beam it is 67 inches from the stern to about half way up then taper to 63 inches at the front platform.  And I will have four batteries in the back bottom all 29's

Ballast will only make the boat heavier, not so much stabler.

Rear motors stay on full bore, steer with the front.  (the multiple motors are only used for travel.  Bow mount steers during travel and is the primary [and usually only] propulsion when fishing)

I started to wire my boat the same way, I will just lock the back drives in at full blast I picked up two MG truster 34's at walmart for 76 a piece on clearance.  Switch them on and away I go steer with the front.

This is what I was thinking for the front any opinions?  I can have it delivered to the store for free and it costs what BPS have them on sale for with there shipping (extra charge).  It's only a forty but its digital maximizer would pay off I think in the long run.

I will sell you my 50 pound thrust one of those if you want.

But, I will tell you, as I am on this board to get help, and help people, not be a salesman, that you probably don't want that.

The steering on that is super slow.  Since it is used for steering, you will probably want a cable steer, as it will keep up better with the transom motors, and plus they fish easier.  And, I don't know about the V2 foot pedals, but the one on mine is a PITA to use while sitting down.

The topic of digital steering comes up from time to time.  I think the general censuses is the entry level digital steers are to slow at turning the head for steering and are frustrating if you are already accustomed to cable steer.  There may be some upper end ones that are good, but you will get more bang for your buck with mid level cable steers.

Search this forum for trolling motor topics and get a snack.  You may be reading a while.

Thanks that tread made it painfully obvious not to get the digital one
