I have a older 4 Horse johnson that i have on my 14 foot v-hull. last year was my first year with it and it took alot to start i replaced the spark plugs but it didnt reallly help i was wondering wat else i could do to help it start easier/quicker.when i sprayed starter fluid on it it stared right up. id really apreciate some advice on this.

Try some seafoam. That should help clear the clean the arbs if there is anything in there.

I am not sure what your ploblem is but in my experince with motors I wouldnt use starting fluid it seams like once you start useing that stuff your motor gets addicted to it and then it want start with out it my little 7.5 has the same problem hard to start but once you get it started it runs like a champ.

I agree.  Sea foam first.  Then move on to the next cheapest fix.  Never start with an expensive fix first.  You might try the fuel pump next.  I got lucky with rebuilding that once and now my motor starts like it was new.  Before I always had to pump the ball if i was idling for more than a minute.  

You should not use stating fluid on a two cycle motor. There is no lubricant in it and you can wash the oil off of the bearings and cause premature failure. if you want something similar use your regular 2 cycle fuel in a windex type squirt bottle.
