The 1197 will be out in a month or so and will cost $2799.  I wouldn't expect the 997 to drop in price anytime soon.  It is worth it though.  Once you fish with side imaging you won't want to be without it.

The 797 is a lot smaller, but it still is flat out amazing.  I decided to not go with the side imaging when I put new electronics on my boat, and I regret it after using my buddies.  It is well worth the price.  If you can swing getting the bigger unit, great, but if not the 797 is still awesome.
