Winter battery storage..

Featured Replies

Hey all and Happy Holidays!!

What is the best way to store trolling motor batteries in the off season?

I have them in the basement, that much I know. I also charged them after the last time I went out.

Up off the cold floor and ALWAYS charged.  :)

I keep them plugged in 24/7. I recommend it if your charger has that feature.

I do keep it off the floor so I'm on the right track. I have a trickle charger, I just wanted to make sure that keeping it on the charger ALL WINTER isn't gonna hurt the battery or my electric bill!!

If the battery is charged it will top it off...peanuts. I dont even think you will notice a difference in your electric bill.   :)

+1   get a guest charger and never look back

I have a trickle charger, is that the same as a guest charger?

mine stay in the boats outside in the winter weather ( 20 degree tonight and snow) plugged in 24/7/365 on my on-board chargers, always fully charged and ready to go and have no problems

Al, "Guest" is a name brand  :)  Trickle is fine but not necessary I don't think.  We just top ours off and put them inside for the winter.   Some yrs, there isn't much left in them by the end of the season so we just save them and turn them in when we get the new ones for the yr.
