Any way to identify manufacturer of boat?

Featured Replies

I have been given an aluminum deep-v jon boat. It is 11' 6" long as measured in the center of the boat, and 52" wide at the widest.

There are two seats, and other than that I can't tell. The whole thing was painted long ago, and both label plates I found were painted over.

I have been looking at pictures on line for a few days, and have not found an exact match yet? What can I do?

Depending on the age. the first 3 letters of the HIN identify the manufacture. I think that started in the early 70's. If the boat is older than that it that wont work.

stamped on the transom on most boats

not sure but glad you found it ....and where was it ?

I found it on the transom as stated. STBD side.

Google says that DEM is starcraft, but the HIN sites I found do not match the format of the HIN found on my boat.

I would post the HIN up here, but that does not sound like a wise thing to do.....or does it not matter?

do not post it...take the Numder you have to your local notary and do a tittle search ( If you don't have a Tittle and I am guessing with your questions you do not )

This will not cost you much but will answer your questions.

Nope, no title.

The boat was given to me by a friend. He never used it.

I don't plan on jumping through any hoops for this, since I will probably just give it away when I move in about a year.

Now I just use it to paddle my way around my pond instead of shore fishing all the time.

I ran into the same identifying problem with my 12ft jon. I was never able to positively identify it with the HIN given. The lady at the tag office run the HIN through NCIC {stolen vehicle database I guess it is} and it come back clean after a 24 hour wait. They then registered it. As far as the brand name and year model was concerned we just took our best guess and registered it as that. Not all tag offices are willing to do that. I had to travel to the next county to get mine done, but I had to have it registered to use it on public lakes. Im very appreciative they were willing to bend the rules a little, after all it was only a little jon boat. Good luck to ya.
