Elaztech + O-ring = Bad Neko

Featured Replies

So it turns out rubber doesn't react well with Elaztech. I made up some Neko rigs for a fishing trip and let them sit for a week before I could use them. I kept throwing off the worm and didn't understand why. When I examined the baits I noticed the o-ring was eating the elaztech.

So I found an alternate. I used #5 split rings. Run the hook about half way thru the worm when you slide it under the split ring otherwise dinks can steal the worm.

Looks like it made you some Ned rigs

Yes! No elaztech was wasted here...

I wonder if silicone o-rings would react the same way?   I'm sure they are vastly more expensive, but I would assume you wouldn't loose very many of them unless you snagged.

Do you even need o rings on elastec?

Interesting idea. Has anyone fished the Neko naked? Heh... at least without an o ring of any kind but fully clothed?

I did once. I almost caught a hook in my.... wait what? I'm confused by the question.

With Elaztech, I'd just slip the hook into the worm with its orientation the same as it would be with a ring . . . and I'd doubt it'd ever come out, tear, etc.

You might want to size the hook up a notch but I am not certain that'd even be necessary.

I think your problem is solved!  Ha!

I think you might be right. I'll try it this weekend.

I just hook them wacky and put a nail weight in.

you ever try to put a nail weight in Elaztech?! It basically spits it out, the material is so stretchy it doesnt allow anything to penetrate it, haha!

The ones with the ridges stay.

Heat a paper clip wire and slide it in to make a channel for the weight. I believe you still need super glue but I suppose it depends on the weight.

I love the Zinkerz as a Neko bait. I pre set my baits with the weight but wait until I'm ready to put it on the hook before I put the O ring on. Man the Zinkerz catch lots of fish Neko rigged, great action in the water.
