Hey folks!

 

I just recently came back to fishing and new to lipless crankbaits. I am wondering why the Rapala Rippin' Raps have two different size trebles (2-1/2" has a 6 and 8)? Is it for balance since the tail treble is at the very back of the lure? Is it to diminish the chance of hangups with the smaller hook on the tail?

 

I have also looked into the KVD Elite trebles and am curious to know if I ever decide to add them to the Rippin Rap, if I should keep the sizes offset like the stock, regardless if I try to upsize?

Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ 

I am a fan of that KVD short shank treble as well as up sizing.

Often I'll use one size bigger on the front of a RES & a squarebill, replacing the back treble with the same size. 

(unless the fish seem to be plus size then I'll go up on both).

Doesn't affect the action as far as I can tell but I do like the resulting hook up ratio, holding power & durability.

Thank you for the reply! I currently have a different set of trebles for a different application, so I might play around with them to get an idea.

 

On a different subject since you mentioned it, what is an 'RES'? ?
