I AM FINALLY GETTING A BOAT!!!!

Featured Replies

It's a 15ft canoe rofl.  Best I can do until I can buy my dad's bass boat lol ;D

Super.

It is a start and it will keep you dry.

Can you put a trolling motor on it?

Fishing from a canoe is fine for ponds and rivers and small resivoirs.

Super great for smallies in rocky and shallow areas of rivers, too.

Have fun and send us photos.

P.S.  Your insurance bill should not be that high, either! ;D

And one other thing.

If you have too much tackle for the canoe, tow a raft with your stuff in it on calm waters.

Works great, even when you are wading in a river.

Just be sure to keep it tied to the boat or your person when wading.

It gets you on the water, it does the job.

Yeah, I'm buying my dad's bass boat off of him this summer if everything goes right.  That will get me on big water.  Right now, I have access to about a dozen really nice ponds/small lakes on Ft. Hood, so I thought a canoe would be perfect.  I could mount a trolling motor on it if I see the need, but I'm going to give a paddle and oars a shot first.  I just kind of want to do it the old way for some reason lol.  I'm pretty stoked about getting it though.  Right before spawn ;)

How do you eat an elephant?  ;)

You eat an elephant one piece at a time.

In other words, just take your time with the canoe and then move up to your dad's boat and then a Triton and then a Ranger.

A big Ranger.  ;)

Nice.  A canoe is where I started too.

I recommend a small trolling motor.  It will push the canoe as fast as you can row and it will go for hours.  You can cover a lot more water with it.  For example you can cover up to about a 1 mile round lake in a canoe with a trolling motor.

Nothing wrong with a paddle boat. The fish have no idea whether they are being yanked into a canoe or a 100 mile an hour Allison.

Yeah, I've fished small craft for years.  I had big ambitions about getting a bass boat after I had gotten home from Iraq, but things didn't work out.  Paid off my trucks instead.  That was probably the smarter move financially, but a stupid move fishing wise lol.

I'm really excited about it.  I'm going to get a trolling motor in a couple of weeks if I can figure out how to mount one.  I'll probably just build something of my own because the mounts I've looked at are expensive.  I think a couple pieces of 1x4 and some plywood will do the trick.

If the wind dies down and if I can find my little digital camera, I'll take some pics and post them up here or in another thread somewhere else.  Right now its REALLY windy and it's supposed to continue throughout the week.  It better die down.  I wanna go fishing.  If it doesn't, looks like I'll be walking the banks.  Nothing's gonna stop me. ;D

Lately I can't catch a break in the weather.  With the kayak and no trolling motor fishing in the wind can be a challenge and some work.
