Towing with a class c rv

Featured Replies

I have a Puma FTD Bass Cat and am looking into getting a class c rv.  Anyone have any experience towing and launching a 20 foot boat with this type vehicle.  Does the length of the rv matter?  I'm thinking 26-30 feet rv but does a few feet longer or shorter either way matter that much for towing and being comfortable inside the rv.  It will be just my wife and I most of the time but would like to have room for others on occasion.

If you get one with the Ford V 10 engine as opposed to the Chevy or GMC, they MAY be fine also.

If you get one on the diesel Mercedes Sprint platform you're good.

But check the towing ratings with the manufacturer yourself  to be sure.

Sounds like the Mercedes would be your first choice then?  What about routine service, do you have to visit a Mercedes dealer($$$) or does the rv dealer provide the routine maintenance?

Thanks for your input.

The Mercedes being diesel is much more expensive than a gas model but will last a lot longer, however fuel and maintenance costs are higher.

Plus there are so many different models it depends on what you priorities are.

The thing about motor homes is that you can get it serviced at any dealer BUT if you don't go to your selling dealer you will be moved down the priority list.

As you mentioned, diesel engines vs gas engines definitely have their own unique advantages and disadvantages associated with them. Ultimately, the initial cost of diesel will be MUCH higher and cost of maintenance with the diesel with be much higher (I hate having to buy DEF and paying for oil changes on my RAM), and diesels definitely don't like sub freezing temperatures. But that comes with many benefits such as improved torque, improved towing, increases in fuel efficiency, and typically have better longevity.

While the gas engine Class C RV will be able to effectively tow a boat, there fuel efficiency is impacted more when towing than a diesel engine. If I had the choice and funds and I plan to tow the majority of the time, I would definitely go with the diesel.
