Saltwater....

Featured Replies

Can I use my bass fishing gear for saltwater fishing? Like can I just pick up by baitcaster and light line and head out to the saltwater and catch big stripers?

You can catch a 15lb catfish on an UL rod with 4lb test.

You can catch a 10lb bass on a wooden stick with 6lb mono tied to it.

It isn't ideal.

Yes. I've done it. But my bass gear is also saltwater friendly.

I.e., Shimano, rated for both. I've taken my Stradics and

my Chronarch 50 out numerous times and caught some nice

striper, croaker, flounder, reds, etc.

Just be sure to rinse the gear down with fresh water.

Just fine for schoolies with properly set drag.  Don’t dunk your reel.

A 30lber on 10lb line on the jetties is asking a bit much though.

Rinse it off when you are done and definitely don't dunk it,use braid.

How about using 8lb fluorocarbon?

I have the abu Garcia pro max. How well would that do?

Should work fine as long as you rinse it thoroughly with fresh water.

I have caught some big snook, redfish, tarpon, jack crevalle, other types of saltwater fish on "freshwater tackle". Make sure to rinse off the tackle after the fishing trip and do further maintenance if needed.
