I just bought a boat and am looking at batteries for my trolling motor.  I am going gel cell and am thinking about the Cabela's AGM batteries.  I bought the Minn Kota maxxum 70lb thrust 24 volt.  Any suggestions on which batteriey to get?  Or should I say, will 2 of the 178 Reserve capacity batteries give me enough juice for all day.  I do have a light boat.  It's an aluminum 18ft with a 60horse etec on it.  Boat loaded down is maybe 1000lbs with every thing in it.

I used to run an alum with about the same weight and did it with batteries with 160 reserve amps.  Your 178s should do fine.  I am running 185s with a 20 glass boat and doing well.

i use the bass pro shop battery for my 45 lb thrust 12 volt trolling motor,  i use it as my main source of power on my 10 foot jon and i can fish for 3 or 4 hours on it , it ran me about 60 bucks if i remember

I switched to AGM batteries about 2 years ago and have been very happy with them. Please be advised you must use a so called "smart charger" or you will have a problem. Most onboard chargers and portable chargers will fry these batteries over time. The smart chargers have a different setting for AGM's and gell cell batteries and only charge at about 14.5 volts. I stopped using my onboard charger and purchased a portable smart charger and have not been sorry. However some onboard chargers have a setting for AGM or gell cell. Just make sure your charger is compatiable.............Al

By the way, my AGM in group 27 are about 20 lbs heavier than the lead acid batteries I removed- if weight is a concern
